How it works
Most aircraft today are equipped with ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. In order to receive this data, Flightradar24 uses a rapidly expanding network of over 50,000 ground stations located all over the world. The app then displays this data as the movement of aircraft on a map.
With the help of multilateration, we are able to calculate the positions of aircraft without ADS-B transponders in a growing number of locations. Real-time radar data also add to the coverage in North America. The amount of coverage varies and can change at any time.
